Another Great VBS!

Wow, What a week! We have seen the Lord save three children this week at Game Day Central, VBS 2007. While numbers are not always telling of the church's health, they can be encouraging. We saw an enrollment of 105 kids this week! In addition to that we also saw as many as 45 VBS workers! We collected over $700 for missions and 400 bottles of water for our mission trips this year! This has been one of the best Vacation Bible Schools ever! We also gave away the giant football Wes is holding in the picture, from family night last night. This football was six feet tall, complete with a kickstand. A little guy named David won the inflatable ball, and when returning to this seat told his Mom:

"My dreams have come true!"

So you see here at First Southern, we make dreams come true!

Most Fun Lock in Ever!

This past Thursday, we held our annual lock-in School's Out Blow Out. Unfortunately I didn't get any photo's of the event, but we started out rock wall climbing. We went to Rocksport, and I tell ya what we have some youth that can climb the wall, literally. After that we headed back to the church. We watched a new nooma video and gave a Gospel presentation. Following the bible study we played games until 3:00 AM. It was a blast. We even shared secrets about each other. My favorite was Hannah's secret, hard to guess! But most all of them were entertaining. Just think if you can you could have found out, who has eaten cow's tongue, and who had hit their sibling in the head with a pool stick! I look forward to next year's and most importantly I am looking forward to the Mission trip in only a couple of weeks. We will be leaving on Sunday July 1 @ 2:00 PM and returning Saturday July 7 around Midnight or later. PRAY FOR US, AND THE PEOPLE WE ARE GOING TO SURVEY!

B.Y.O.B.

Hey college students! On Sunday, June 17th, there will be no night church services because it is Father's Day. Therefore, we will be having a cookout that evening. We call it B.Y.O.B. It stands for "Bring Your Own Beef." Of course, this means that you will have to bring beef that is ready to cook, not still kicking like these fellows.

Rachel has a list of what items are already on the list to be brought by others. If you would like to bring a different side dish, please email her for details. Other than that, just bring some beef (or chicken, I guess) and enjoy the fellowship. I usually bring a hamburger steak or a sirloin cut.

This cookout will be held at Bro. Sam and Erin's new house (we are helping them move in remember?). We will grill out and enjoy some fellowship. We will crank up the grills at 6pm. Bring your beef and throw it on the grill. I will work on getting directions and a map posted soon. Hope to see you there.

Young Adults - June Ministry Projects

Hey young adults! We have two ministry projects for the month of June. One is real close to home - the other is bound to make a few of you get uncomfortable.

Bro. Sam and Erin are moving (again) the 16th of June (<-- notice date change). They need as much help as possible. I think we can take care of that. Let's rally around our Pastor and his wife.

The other project is two nursing home visits. Uncomfortable yet? These visits will include chatting/visiting with the residents and having a church service with them. I will lead the music, preach and lead the prayer time. I would like you guys to come and practice getting out of your comfort zone by visiting with these ladies and gentlemen in need. I'm hoping to also have a friend bring her dogs along as well. The dates for these visits will be June 20th and 21st. The times have not been set as of yet (keep checking back here for the times). I'm guessing that the turn out for this event won't be anywhere near the number that help Bro. Sam and Erin, but I do hope to see a few of you there.

Get Uncomfortable - Great start

Hey ladies and gents. Thanks to all the young adults who showed up to Session One of our new Bible Study. We had eight young adults! That's double what our average has been, and I'm very encouraged by that.
I am emailing each of your the audio files for the first and second sessions. If you were not there Sunday night and would like to sign up for the study then please email me. I ask that you listen to both of them and read Session Two from your book. Be prepared to comment on Sunday about the topics at hand. Invite a friend to be challenged with you. I will be contacting you soon about our June Ministry Project as well.
